About the same time Charles Cushman took the shot of South Street in New York City that we saw yesterday, Marion Post Wolcott was documenting the flight of New Yorkers out of the city and toward the shore (or, more appropriately, given that it’s described as Sunday traffic, the flight from the shore back into the city) for the Farm Security Administration. Whether Jersey shore or Long Island shore, the entries (1, 2, 3) in the Library of Congress archives don’t say (note, however, the New Jersey license plate on the nearest car in the above photo), but the photos at least provide some excellent carspotting. What do you see here?
